Overview

The Manager of the IT PMO is responsible for overseeing the project portfolio, governance processes, and project delivery practices within the Information Technology function. This role serves as a key liaison between business stakeholders and IT, ensuring technology initiatives are evaluated, prioritized, tracked, and executed in alignment with organizational goals.

 

The Manager of the IT PMO drives consistency, transparency, and accountability across the project portfolio while supporting effective decision-making and successful project outcomes.

 

This role reports to the CIO initially but will transfer to the VP of Enterprise Applications in Q1 2027

Responsibilities

30%

Project Portfolio Management

  • Managed the intake, evaluation, prioritization, and tracking of technology-related project requests.
  • Maintains visibility into project status, risks, dependencies, timelines, and resource needs across the IT portfolio.
  • Partner with business stakeholders and business analysts to ensure project requirements are sufficiently defined to support prioritization and decision-making.
  • Partners with business and technology leaders to align project priorities with strategic objectives.
  • Monitors portfolio performance and escalates issues that may impact project delivery.
  • Partner with IT leaders to support resource allocation and capacity planning across the project portfolio.

Project Governance and Delivery

  • Establishes and maintains project management standards, processes, methodologies, and documentation.
  • Ensures projects adhere to defined governance practices and project lifecycle requirements.
  • Provides oversight and guidance to project managers and project teams to support successful delivery.
  • Monitors project execution to ensure objectives, milestones, and deliverables are achieved.
  • Facilitates issue resolution and cross-functional collaboration to remove obstacles and keep projects on track.

Stakeholder Communication, Reporting, and PMO Operations

  • Serves as a liaison between IT teams, business stakeholders, project sponsors, and executive leadership.
  • Develops and maintains project dashboards, status reports, portfolio metrics, and executive communications.
  • Supports steering committee meetings and governance reviews by preparing project information, portfolio updates, and decision-making materials.
  • Maintains PMO tools, templates, repositories, and reporting processes.
  • Provides visibility into project progress, resource utilization, risks, and dependencies to support leadership decision-making.

Team Leadership

·       Drives the short-term execution of tasks and priorities to meet deadlines set by senior leadership.

·       Monitors team progress against established goals and quickly resolves immediate operational issues and roadblocks.

·       Conducts regular team meetings to reinforce direction and keep team informed of company, department, and / or team initiatives.

·       Escalates complex performance or strategic roadblocks to the next level of management

·       Contributes to and supports the execution of departmental initiatives and cross-functional projects

Team Development

·       Holds regular one-on-one meetings to provide hands-on coaching and performance feedback and discuss growth and development.

·       Sets individual performance goals and provides support to help team members achieve their immediate objectives

·       Addresses and resolves escalated team conflicts promptly to maintain a productive work environment.

·       Encourages and supports team members in their own skill development and knowledge acquisition.

·       Fosters effective collaboration with other Teams and Departments.

·       Stays current with industry trends and best practices through regular research and professional development

·       Develops and maintains relevant skills

·       Performs any other duties and tasks as assigned by management

 

Qualifications

Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in project management, program management, PMO administration, or related roles.
  • Previous experience leading and developing project managers, business analysts, or other professional team members required.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent technology projects and initiatives.
  • Experience supporting project governance, portfolio management, and resource planning processes.
  • Experience collaborating with technical teams, business stakeholders, and executive leadership.
  • Proficiency with project management and reporting tools such as Microsoft Project, Azure DevOps, Jira, Smartsheet, or similar platforms.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
